Ozon storage and logistics tariffs: the lines that quietly eat margin
Volumetric weight, free storage windows, paid acceptance, the oversize ladder and average delivery time — the mechanics sellers describe, with dated figures.
Commission is the most visible cost line on Ozon, but when sellers ask where the profit went, the answer is usually storage and logistics. What follows comes from eleven Russian-language seller videos — one of them by an Ozon employee — not from official documentation. Tariffs change constantly, so each figure carries its period; check Ozon's current tariff page.
They measure the packaging, not the product
Logistics is billed by the litre, and the litre is measured on the final packaging, not the product. As the seller demonstrating an FBO supply puts it, the warehouse measures the packaging: sell a skirt in a bag and they measure the bag, so volume easily doubles or triples — "and we are the ones paying for it".
The formula: length × width × height in cm ÷ 1000 = litres, litres ÷ 5 = volumetric weight. Ozon charges the greater of actual and volumetric weight. An Ozon employee adds that volume and weight are entered separately and the system derives the rest, so filling them by eye costs money: an 800-gram item read as two kilos is billed as two kilos. Auditing card dimensions, and vacuum-bagging soft goods, costs nothing.
Storage is charged day by day
The danger is the rhythm, not the size: storage comes off daily, in small amounts, unnoticed until the period closes and the profit is gone. Paid storage begins, after shipment, at 30 days for КГТ (oversized), 60 for flammable goods, 120 for ordinary goods and 365 for clothing and footwear.
A long free window is misleading. His example: 3,000 down jackets enter the warehouse in August at 7 litres each, and 1,200 sell that season. From the next August storage runs at 2.5 ₽ per litre per day, and ten months of it on the 700 still left approaches 3 million ₽. His dashboard shows 38 of 151 SKUs in paid storage at 99,000 ₽ a month, plus 42 with no sales at all — the next in line. The report downloads as Excel under Финансы → Стоимость размещения; check it weekly.
Another video reports storage tripling "this summer", with goods sitting 60 days charged 1.5 ₽ per litre per day; the old rate is given as both 25 and 50 kopecks in one sentence, so it is not clear in the video. His complaint is less the amount than the delivery: the rise landed overnight, leaving no chance to plan.
Two changes matter. Storage charges now stop the day a paid-return request is filed, where previously a return filed in December and back in April was charged the whole way. And from 12 September 2026 the free placement days for КГТ disappear entirely — those goods are stored on a paid basis from day one, at a lower rate.
How to stay in free storage
Storage can be free by three routes: the item is in a promotion, sits in a privileged category, or counts as a супертовар.
- Супертовар: free if the median price is 1,000 ₽ or above and the item is new; past 60 days the status holds while it sells an average of 1,000 ₽ a day. Cross-docking is free for one too.
- New seller: no storage charge for the first 60 days.
- Литро-бонус: bonuses earned on every supply; one covers a litre of placement for a day.
- Category exemption: then covering clothing, accessories, footwear, underwear, jewellery, trampolines, pools, bicycles and e-scooters, construction and garden equipment, children's sport.
Another period adds free placement at every warehouse for clothing, footwear and accessories until 31 December, with no cash charged once bonuses run out — likewise for items turning over in under 120 days. The list moves, and супертовар status can vanish suddenly.
Paid acceptance: what you put in the box
Acceptance (приёмка) is free or charged depending on packing. One SKU per box is free; two items in one box make a коробка микс and acceptance starts costing — in the demo, correct packing gave 242 ₽ delivery and 0 ₽ acceptance, while merging two SKUs pushed acceptance to 65 ₽. An item longer than 450 mm on any side is non-sortable, and mixing it with sortable goods raises the fee again. Cross-docking is charged either way, priced now on volume rather than box count; from 1 September 2026 a courier call-out falls from 700 ₽ to 546 ₽ and SC box and pallet processing to 0 ₽ per litre.
The litre ladder and oversize
| Period | FBO | FBS |
|---|---|---|
| From 1 October 2025 | 46 ₽ to 1 litre; +10 ₽ to 3 litres; +15 ₽ from 3 to 190 | 80 ₽ to 1 litre; +18 ₽ to 3 litres; +23 ₽ after |
| From 10 December 2025 | 46.77 ₽; +10.17 ₽; +15.25 ₽ to 190 litres; +6.10 ₽ to 1,000; flat 7,859 ₽ above | 81.04 ₽; +18.30 ₽; +23.39 ₽; flat 9,432 ₽ above 1,000 |
Two accounts agree: a 190-litre item comes to 2,871 ₽ in both, against 1,936 ₽ on the old step. A third describes a different ladder — 7 ₽ per litre above 5 on bulky FBO goods, flat 1,638 ₽ above 230 litres — which fits neither and probably belongs to another period. Both are recorded here rather than reconciled.
The seller who measured the impact pulled three periods from the knowledge base: above 301 ₽ and up to 190 litres, the tariffs before 13 November and those for 14 November to 9 December are identical. The break is in oversize:
| Volume (item above 301 ₽) | Before 13 Nov 2025 | From 10 Dec 2025 | Change |
|---|---|---|---|
| 190 litres | 2,871 ₽ | 2,918 ₽ | +1.7% |
| 300 litres | — | ~3,600 ₽ | +25% |
| 500 litres | — | ~4,800 ₽ | +67% |
| 1,000 litres | — | 7,859 ₽ | ~2.75× |
So goods up to 190 litres at any price, and goods under 300 ₽, saw only 1.65–1.7% indexation; the blow fell on oversize above 301 ₽ and 190 litres. Behind it, VAT rose from 20% to 22%. Cross-docking averages 10 ₽ a litre, so a 5-litre item costs 50 ₽ in cross-docking alone.
Then the tariff freeze. A supply request used to lock that day's tariffs for 60 days; from 28 August 2026 anything planned after an announcement falls under the new tariff, since sellers had 45 days' notice. The same package moves FBS processing to 0 ₽ at a sorting centre but to 2% of shipment value, capped at 45 ₽, at ПВЗ and ППЗ instead of a flat 30 ₽ — cheaper only below about 1,500 ₽.
From the localisation index to average delivery time
On 7 April 2025 the localisation index gave way to average delivery time. At 29 hours or less you pay the base tariff, itself cut from 63 ₽ to 43 ₽ per litre. Above 29 hours comes a coefficient of 1.025 to 1.8 plus 0.125% to 4% of the item price. Clusters went from 12 to 19 in the same period.
The direction matters: a good old index cut your cost, while the new system gives no discount for shipping everywhere, only a penalty for not. One seller's verdict: if you had a good index, congratulations, now you overpay — 40% on his numbers. From his cabinet, on a 2.5-litre item:
| Average delivery time | Cost of delivery |
|---|---|
| 29 hours or less | 63 ₽ |
| 31 hours | 75 ₽ (70 ₽ logistics + 5.5 ₽ price commission) |
| 40 hours | 120 ₽ (95 ₽ + 25 ₽); about 170 ₽ with last mile |
Two hours, then, cost 13 ₽. At an index of 85% FBO logistics came to 70 ₽; a realistic 35 hours now costs about 100 ₽. Another seller measured +47% plus 2% of price in his test shop on a 48-hour average, and +12.5% and +20% in newer shops; his rule is to multiply logistics by 1.3.
FBO also charged 2% to 8% of price on every non-local sale, tracked under Аналитика → Планирование поставок → Локальность продаж; one seller has seen 100,000–200,000 ₽ on that line in cabinets he reviews. It went on 9 July 2026 — but in the same video the presenter's textile commission rose ten points to 55%. One line closes as another opens.
Short summary
- The litre is measured on the final packaging, and Ozon charges the greater of actual and volumetric weight. Dimensions filled by eye are money straight out.
- Storage is written off daily. Free windows: 30 days for КГТ, 60 for flammable, 120 for ordinary goods, 365 for clothing, in the period of the video.
- Free storage comes from a promotion, a privileged category, супертовар status, литро-бонус, or a new seller's first 60 days — and the status can vanish without warning.
- Acceptance is priced by packing: one SKU per box is free, a mixed box is charged, non-sortable goods kept apart.
- Rises are indexation at small volumes (1.7%) and multiples at oversize: about 2.75× at 1,000 litres against the pre-13 November 2025 level.
- Past 29 hours you pay a coefficient and a percentage of price; unlike the old index, good distribution buys no discount, only the absence of a penalty.
- From 28 August 2026 the tariff freeze no longer covers unfavourable changes — re-read the tariff before each supply.
Commbot's price floor carries logistics and storage as separate lines; updating it when a tariff moves is still the seller's job.
