Packing, barcodes and labels on Ozon: getting a box through acceptance
As sellers describe it: what each item is wrapped in, what goes on the label, which lines cost money at acceptance, which mistakes lose stock.
A box reaches an Ozon warehouse, goes onto the dock, gets scanned — or does not. The difference is packing, barcode and label. Everything below comes from seller videos: vloggers filming an FBO supply end to end, sellers teaching their own courses, and Ozon's own material on marking. This is not an official rulebook — the figures belong to each video's period.
Packing: the rule depends on the category
In a long onboarding guide that Ozon staff join, requirements split by product group: liquids go into a zip bag taped over on top, so a broken bottle does not leak onto the rest; fragile goods get bubble wrap; glass and crystal get wrap and then a box sized to the item. An FBO seller shows this on his own stock: sealed factory packaging needs only the barcode, unpacked goods go into a zip bag, 18+ items into a non-transparent courier bag.
He gives two warnings: do not seal the zip closure with the barcode, since the customer tears the label opening it and the item loses its identity; but do not tape everything either, because the customer must be able to open it and return it. The real money leak is elsewhere. One seller is blunt: the warehouse measures the packaging, not the item. A skirt in a bag is measured by the bag, volume can double or triple, and you pay for it. Card dimensions are likewise taken after packing.
The label: what is on it, where it goes
The one undisputed element is the barcode generated with the card, downloaded as a PDF from the product list. A thermal printer is convenient but not required — pre-cut self-adhesive paper works on an ordinary printer. One seller buys 120x75 for the box and 58x40 for the item, adding that there is no single standard; another says 45x23, then admits he may be wrong and uses 58x40 himself.
On content the sources disagree. The onboarding guide lists barcode, product name, brand, article, country of production, manufacturer and expiry date, saying goods will not be accepted without them. The vlogger filming a 2026 supply names only the barcode and the product name: "some people add it, that is your choice, it is not mandatory."
On technique they agree: the barcode must not bend. On a round item, stick it lengthwise rather than across, because scanners at the warehouse and the pickup point will not read a bent code. Other barcodes on the item — a factory code, another marketplace's label — must be covered so warehouse staff are not confused. The reverse works too: a factory barcode large enough can be added to the card as a second barcode and used.
| Label | Size | Where |
|---|---|---|
| Product barcode | 58x40 mm (45x23 in one video) | On the item — under both FBO and FBS |
| Product barcode, second copy | Same | On the outer packaging after packing |
| FBS shipment label | 75x120 mm | On the non-transparent courier bag |
| Box (cargo place) label | 120x75 mm | In a corner of the sealed box |
The reason for two labels: the customer opens the parcel at the pickup point and returns it if it does not suit, damaging the outer barcode — without the inner label the item cannot be sold again. A seller covering FBS calls this a legal requirement, then adds: "on FBS almost nobody does it, it is seen as a waste of time."
Transport boxes and cargo places
One seller reads the requirements off Ozon's knowledge base: the box must be cardboard, undamaged and carry no barcodes of its own; box plus contents must not exceed 20 kilograms; one supply cannot carry more than 30 boxes, more than 1,000 litres, or a volume above one cubic metre. Too much free space and the goods rattle, so filler such as newspaper is advised; packing it solid is risky too, because the worker opening the box with a knife can cut the goods.
Do not use the yellow boxes your cargo arrived in, and keep to Ozon's S, M and L sizes — a box between S and M counts as the larger and you overpay. A cargo place is a pallet or a box: five boxes are five cargo places. The labels download once the request exists and carry the warehouse, supply number, supplier, cargo place ID and drop-off point; mixing them up costs a surplus-processing fee. On sticking them down the sources contradict each other: one says fix them firmly but do not tape over the barcode, as that hinders scanning; the other says use a document sleeve or tape it down hard, since a rain-soaked label becomes unreadable.
Where acceptance eats your money
Free acceptance hangs on one rule: one box, one kind of item. Put two kinds in and the box counts as mixed and acceptance becomes chargeable — on one seller's screen, the difference between 0 and 65 roubles. On top sits the sortable/non-sortable split: an item with a side above 450 millimetres counts as non-sortable, and mixing the two pushes the fee higher. There is also a panel setting: trusted acceptance (доверительная приёмка) must be selected for single-kind cargo places.
The other half is declaration. Fail to declare how many boxes and what is in each, and Ozon counts for you and charges per item; declaring it wrongly also costs — one screen shows 310 roubles of supply processing, more for goods with expiry dates. Another video shows acceptance at 0–10 roubles per litre and cross-docking from 300–400 roubles for a small box up to 1,000 for a distant region. The seller filming a 2026 supply says mixing articles in one box used to be free and is now charged for, and warns sharply: Ozon loves counting small S boxes as bigger ones — compare the boxes you sent with those you were billed for.
The same seller treats a limit of 230 SKUs per box as new; that does not square with another video's "up to 5,000 kinds in one box", and neither says when its limit began.
Честный знак: where the code comes from and goes
In Ozon's own account the chain runs like this: the manufacturer describes the item in GS1 or the national catalogue, obtains a GTIN per item, orders the codes through Честный знак, applies them and puts them into circulation. The code has two parts — an identification half and a cryptographic tail working as a digital signature — and prints as a Data Matrix: a square code, like a QR but more compact. Goods that cannot be sold unmarked include water, dietary supplements, cameras and flash lamps, perfume, footwear, dairy and tyres.
Whether you fall under marking is decided by your customs code; enter it in the card and codes requiring marking show a "маркировка РФ" hint. For codes to pass between legal entities you need electronic document exchange and a УПД for every supply of marked goods: the supply shows a notice, the code is scanned at acceptance, and once the act is agreed you send the УПД template, which moves the codes onto Ozon's balance. Ozon withdraws them from circulation itself through the sales receipt. On import the shipment document must name ООО Интернет Решения as recipient and carry the supply identifier in the primary document number field; random digits, extra spaces or several numbers separated by commas leave the acceptance document uncreated and the codes on your balance.
One contradiction, reported as found. The marking video says marking is mandatory under FBO and not needed under other schemes. The onboarding guide's FBS section shows the opposite: such goods display a special icon, and you must enter the Честный знак element before printing the label. In a news video another seller says you can neither ship nor list such goods without putting them into circulation. On the widening scope they agree: through 2026, from March to July, some confectionery, bakery goods, coffee and chocolate come under mandatory marking.
What goes wrong at acceptance
The expensive surprise is lost stock. One seller is plain about it: Ozon can lose part of a consignment, sometimes a whole box, and the act comes back saying eight declared, seven accepted. To dispute it you need video: the barcodes visible as you put goods into the box, a close-up of the box's own barcode, and a separate shot of the box going into the vehicle declared in the request. Then you upload an Excel file — a reasoned objection — which does not even need signing. Often Ozon finds the goods and opens a virtual supply; if it cannot and you rejected the act, compensation follows in a month or two, calculated as though you had sold the item. A second seller gives the same advice independently.
The act carries a time trap: signing needs no electronic signature, but leave it alone and it is agreed automatically within five days and can no longer be disputed. The request itself can be cancelled without consequences up to 72 hours before the supply. At handover there is no paperwork — Ozon staff issue nothing, so filming the moment is the only evidence.
In short
- The warehouse measures the packaging, not the item; you pay for the extra volume.
- Stick the barcode flat and unbent, and cover any other barcodes on the item.
- Two labels: one on the item, one on the outer packaging — a returned parcel damages the outer barcode.
- Every source agrees on barcode and product name; they disagree on whether brand, article, country and expiry are mandatory.
- Boxes must be cardboard, undamaged and barcode-free; limits of 20 kilograms, 30 boxes and 1,000 litres per supply are described.
- Free acceptance means one kind per box, sortable apart from non-sortable, and contents fully declared.
- Film the supply — it is the only basis for a claim on lost stock, and the act settles itself after five days.
Commbot folds packaging dimensions and logistics lines into its per-card price model, which shows how much shrinking the packaging actually buys you.
